"The amount of time it takes it to accomplish your next goal can be measured by the determination and discipline you put into reaching it." - Coach Kelly
Proverbs 29:18 (KJV):
"Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he."
Our life is a journey. We start out slowly, gain momentum, run through young adulthood, and eventually set the pace on a path that works for us. Some paths are set by life's demands: work, family, and social obligations. These demands can create habits that impact our physical and emotional health.
When I turned 48, I started thinking about my health. Honestly, it was because I found myself on a slippery slope and falling apart. Stress, bad eating habits, lack of sleep, and no time to exercise started taking a toll on my body. And I needed to make some changes.
I woke up one morning and realized that I had a neurologist, a rheumatologist, a gynecologist, an orthodontist, and a regular family physician (added bonus: more than a few doctor bills). Because I wasn't on any regular medications, it was more of a wake-up call on where I was headed. So I did a little soul searching and decided that I needed to take some measures to reclaim a little of my life - to coach myself for a change - namely on my health!
I started by actually getting on the scales. Then, downloaded a free calorie counter and set a weight goal. It wasn't going to be easy but it was definitely doable. As the weight started coming off, after a couple months of seeing my determination and success, my husband joined me. What started out as a personal weight management goal evolved into a positive lifestyle change. Several months in and we both feel a lot better (and look pretty good in the 'over-40' crowd!) So with this in mind, I wanted to share a few coaching tips on goal setting related to health and wellness that have worked for us.* Keep in mind that setting a goal is the easy part. The hard part is the work it takes to achieve our vision.
Since The process is more detailed than the goal - self-awareness is very important. Nobody can establish your process for you. It is yours to create and set into action.
